From October 2 – 10 the No Death Penalty Ohio Coalition is hosting Faith Week, culminating in a Day of Prayer, a 24-hour prayer vigil at the Statehouse in Columbus.

We are inviting faith communities across the state to participate by hosting an educational event, a letter writing party, making death penalty abolition part of your service, or joining the Day of Prayer vigil at the statehouse in Columbus.

Members of the NoDeathPenaltyOH coalition will be tabling at ComFest this year, a community festival at Goodale Park in Columbus from June 23rd – June 25th. This is an opportunity to work with others across the state, who share in the commitment to end Ohio’s death penalty. Training and materials will be provided.

Over the past two years, the No Death Penalty Ohio Coalition built a movement that saw historic legislative progress. Though the legislation that would end Ohio’s death penalty did not pass, we are determined to keep pushing for repeal. It’s a new session and new bills ending Ohio’s death penalty are poised for introduction. Join us at a statewide grassroots meeting to learn about the campaign, ignite or reignite the spark for abolishing the death penalty, and to learn how you can play a role.

We need people like you to join the bipartisan movement to end the death penalty.

Join people of faith across Ohio to stand in solidarity for abolition of the death penalty. Recognizing the injustices in our criminal justice system, we are unwilling to participate in the cruel and inhumane practice of sentencing our fellow neighbors to death. We join together across religious traditions calling in one voice for the abolition of the death penalty. Our goal is to register 1 faith community from each of Ohio’s 88 counties.

In an effort to take extra precautions against the spread of COVID-19, the #NoDeathPenaltyOH coalition is taking Lobby Day virtual. Rather than travel to the statehouse, we will meet with legislators over the course of the week via Zoom to voice our support of death penalty abolition.

On October 19th, let’s come together as a community to stand united against the death penalty. The coalition has planned programming and events alongside opportunities throughout the week to meet with legislators. Join us and register here.

Thank you to all who have taken the time to write to your legislator, submit a letter to the editor, make a phone call, attend an event and more. Those actions take us one step closer to abolition and this work would not be possible without community. We hope you are able to join us for Lobby Day*.

*Before attending virtual Lobby Day, we ask that participants attend these trainings:
