Wineberg will speak about how she overcame odds and challenges to grace the top step of the Olympic Podium. Following the conversation, guests will have the opportunity to purchase Wineberg’s autobiography, Unwavering Perseverance from the Smith and Hannon Bookstore at the museum and get it signed. RSVPS are requested.

Our Foremothers is the museum’s signature Women’s History Month program and illuminates lesser known women in various significant roles in history. In previous years, the museum has recognized Harriet Ann Jacobs, Septima Poinsette Clark, Josephine Baker and others. This year 11 women of history who have contributed to the fight for freedom will be highlighted including Caroline Still Wiley Anderson, Marita Odette Bonner Occomy, Willa Beatrice Brown, Henrietta Vinton Davis and more. Morgan Owens will be the emcee of the program. Owens is the creator of Curvy Cardio and has partnered with Chef Bambina and the Cincinnati Herald to launch the workshop “Babes in Bizness” which is designed to be an innovative workshop series which includes a panel of successful entrepreneurs to coach guests in developing their own network within the community.  RSVPs are requested.

“We are thrilled to offer these exceptional programs to celebrate women whose stories are often forgotten and untold,” says Tara Riley, Interim Director of Museum Experience at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. “By sharing insight on the contributions and triumphs of these lesser known freedom fighters, guests will have a greater understanding on the challenges women continue to face today.”

Corine Fairbanks is the featured speaker in the March Gallery Talk and will discuss the struggles women encounter in getting the basic social and civil liberties. Fairbanks is a writer, educator and activist beginning her career with the American Indian Movement in 1986.
