Freedom center Presents Lecture Series: Marilynne Robinson
Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
$5, RSVP

'The 2015-2016 John and Francie Pepper Lecture Series concludes with American novelist and essayist, Marilynne Robinson. Robinson will discuss her body of work with a focus on her 2004 novel, Gilead: A Novel. Robinson's Pulitzer Prize- winning novel chronicles the story of Reverend John Ames, who, at the end of his life, seeks to leave a written record of their family history to his young son. His recounting of personal history, which takes place over the course of three generations, from the Civil War to the twentieth Century, also intertwines the internal and spiritual battles faced over America's most controversial issues that still bring outrage to America’s heart today. The book reveals the human condition and the often unbearable beauty of an ordinary life, which is a common theme in many of her works.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Robinson is the author of the bestselling novels, Lila, Home, Gilead : A Novel and Housekeeping  in addition to a four books of nonfiction. Robinson has been the winner of the Orange Prize, Pulitzer Prize and PEN/Hemingway Award. She has been given honorary degrees from Brown University, the University of the South, Holy Cross, Notre Dame, Amherst, Skidmore and Oxford University.'
