Bringing Warmth to Syria
American Red Cross Responds to Syrian Crisis Campaign
Clothing drive created as follow-up to need expressed at Listening Forum;
aims to bring warmth to the refugees of Syria
CINCINNATI (January 12, 2016) – On October 28, the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the American Red Cross held its first “Listening Forum” as a way to hear and share information about the world’s many refugee and migrant communities. This first forum focused on what is arguably the largest and most dire health crisis in the world at the moment: that of the Syrian refugees. The forum included panelist from the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations (UOSSM) who are currently serving and responding to the crisis. Attendees included agencies and organizations currently serving refugee populations.
During the forum, many people asked how they could help. The panelist talked about the need for coats, blankets, scarves, gloves, socks, sweaters and any other warm clothing items that could benefit the people of Syria that are braving the cold winters. As an outgrowth of this response, the Red Cross is holding a clothing drive in which all items collected will go to support the refugees in Syria.
The campaign begins on Friday, Jan. 15 and ends Friday, Feb. 12.
Items can be dropped off at various locations across the region:
1. American Red Cross: 2111 Dana Ave., Cincinnati
2. Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati: 8092 Plantation Dr., West Chester
3. Xavier University Edward B. Brueggeman Center for Dialogue: On Xavier’s campus- House Address 3853 Wedgwood Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45207
